The Auditions Process
Open Enrollment continues for the fall semester at Kairos Music Academy! We rehearse at The Epworth United Methodist Church, 1953 Hopkins St, Berkeley, CA 94707 every Tuesday and Thursday, 4:45 – 6:15pm. Please feel free to drop by anytime! Audition Details
- Students ages 9 and up are expected to prepare a short musical piece. Kairos values creativity and openness to musical direction more than perfect vocal technique, so no need to stress about what to sing. Just pick a song you’re excited about sharing. You’re welcome to bring along sheet music for our pianist, or sing a cappella. If you’re coming for an open rehearsal, you can wait and schedule an audition for a future rehearsal.
- Note – we understand the audition may be a bit daunting for our youngest singers, and thus an audition is not required for singers 8 years old and younger.
- We have found that students do best when with their peers, rather than in a one on one setting. Auditions take place in a warm and welcoming environment, in small groups with students learning group exercises, repeating short melodies and rhythms, and singing their selected song for their peers.
- Based on their willingness to learn, attitude, and musical aptitude, students will be placed into one of Kairos Music Academy’s choirs/ accepted with reservations/ or advised to wait and apply again. Regardless of outcome, students and families will be told the results of their audition before the end of their time slot.
After the auditions
Kairos rehearses on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30 to 6:00 pm at The Epworth United Methodist Church, 1953 Hopkins St, Berkeley, CA 94707. Twice a week attendance is encouraged, especially for the upper choirs. We are happy to discuss this with you!
Fall season includes participation in our winter holiday concert and several exciting performances. The Spring semester usually features a music retreat in a beautiful, natural setting for all members, and our famous Spring musical.
